HUGO BOSS BLACK - The Third Dimension of Fashion

A few weeks ago, I was invited by Hugo Boss to view the new Boss Black collection in their Beijing show... in 3D. Of course, this would mean that I would have to wear 3D sunglasses, and Hugo Boss happily sent all international fashion media, including bloggers like myself, a pair of their limited edition 3D glasses, which I'm thankful for. Unfortunately, the glasses didn't arrive in time, but I watched the show's live stream nonetheless... my eyes sure had a work out!

The show was an interesting mix of modern technological visuals and classic and sophisticated tailoring and winter wear in an array of colours to choose from. If only I had my Hugo Boss 3D glasses I would've seen the models walk straight off the runway and into my hands, but the show hardly needed the 3D live stream because of the the exquisite collection they have presented for Autumn/Winter. Oh, and Chow Yun Fat, one of China's most famous actors, made his debut on the runway as well haha!

The Gucci Artisan Corner - Sydney

My special invite to the Gucci Artisan Corner
Gucci's artisans are travelling the world, and are giving fashion media a chance to witness their famous bamboo bags come to life right before their eyes. I was lucky enough to see these skilled craftsmen and women create such an iconic handbag, probably the first ever handbag designed with consideration for the environment and for the human rights of workers within a high fashion label.

Before the artisans started their work, one of the artisans explained to us the processes involved in creating the bamboo bag. I learnt so much from this woman, she had such a passion in her voice and you can tell she loves her work as an artisan. First of all, the bag takes 2 days to make, so the small group of us who were there could only see the first half of the overall creation of the bags.

The bag has many variations, based on the type of skin or leather used, and the bamboo handles are different in each bag that is made, due to the burning and glazing process that is undertaken with care for each bag. The glaze used for the handles are derived from the bamboo husk, and this process dates back to 3000 years ago, and is also the colorant for the Red Coats' uniform.

Each artisan specializes in every process of creation of the bag

It was a wonderful experience watching these skilled artisans bring together a bag that represents the beginning of the possibilities of bamboo within the fashion industry. Seeing all the work that goes into a fine bag makes me appreciate more the skills which fashion designers have, I am so thankful for this experience.

On a final note, the artisans also had on board an embosser, who uses 24 carat gold leaf or silver leaf - your choice - to emboss your Gucci wallet, bag or belt for free... Oh how I wish I possessed any type of Gucci leather!

Givenchy Cruise SS13 Preview

Riccardo Tisci has once again blown my mind with jaw-dropping statement prints for the Givenchy Cruise SS13 collection, as seen in this preview, and they need not show the whole collection to get me to buy, buy, buy. The silk/cotton shirt (top) is what has got me with this collection, the mix of military of hues and aviation themed detailed print will, I said WILL, be mine.

Kenzo Kool

Kenzo, one of my favourite labels, has taken a turn on the skateboard by releasing these colourful New Era caps and Vans Authentics for their Spring Summer collection. I've never been a fan of Vans Authentics, but Kenzo has added vibrancy and eccentricity to these dull skate shoes, but on the other hand, I love snapbacks and caps, and my eyes are set on the purple/black Kenzo New Era cap!! The skating and hip hop world will definitely come full circle with the high fashion world with these pieces!

Oh, not to mention, the quirky and fun Kenzo x Vans ad has got me dancin' :)

Sarah Faye Duong from Belanci, me and fellow blogger Alicia Kara before the Akira presentation at The Box
Today was the final day of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, and it was time for my college to show off its international students' talents at the International Showcase. I joined my fellow Raffles students Gabe Perez - Sales and Marketing Manager for Ikon Management and Blogger at Freedom Gabriel, Sarah Faye Duong from Belanci shoes, blogger Alicia Kara, Romika, Sasha, Rachel and Kylie for the showcase and I emerged from the show proud of the students that showcased their collections!

The showcase was absolutely wonderful, and the distinguishable approaches to fashion design which these designers take were presented beautifully. Winston Tan from Malaysia showed Alexander McQueen style headdresses with digitized floral prints, Crystal Tsoi from Hong Kong presented minimalist pieces which almost clinged to the body with an emphasis on light straps to hold them together - creating a relationship of dependency on the body to the pieces, Ayaka Ichikawa from Japan brought architectural cuts and stiff silhouettes to the audience - something which Japanese fashion designers have always been known for, and finally, Gabriel Lee from Korea ended the showcase with Balenciaga FW12 inspired visors and innocent flowy garments, and who can forget the dress at the end?

Other shows during the day included Suboo, Akira Isogawa, Bless'ed Are The Meek, New Generation 2, Style Hong Kong, Nana Judy and Fernando Frisoni.

Goodbye Mercedes Benz Fashion Week 2012! I enjoyed all the shows, the parties, the people and especially the fashion!
